Transportation Ocean Freight – The 78-mile long Stockton Deep Water Channel travels deep into the middle of California’s great central valley, allowing ocean-going vessels to load and unload freight closer to its source or destination. The bulk cargo terminal at Stockton allows Penny Newman to avoid the substantial cost of trucking commodities to and from, and transloading at California’s congested Pacific Ocean ports.
The terminal’s berth is 550 feet with water depth of 34 feet. Vessels at the port are limited to 679 feet by LOA restriction. Depending on cargo type, the terminal is able to load approximately 5,000 metric tons per day to one hold at a time. Simultaneous unloading from two holds to two dockside hoppers can accommodate approximately 6,000 metric tons per day. Liquid unloading at the berth is directly to two one-million-gallon dockside tanks Rail – The bulk cargo terminal is served by two transcontinental railroads: the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Union Pacific. The terminal and elevator allow rail loading and unloading to or from storage, or directly to or from ship holds. Truck - The bulk cargo terminal is located on Interstate 5 at Highway 4, with direct freeway access to Highway 99 via Highway 4. This provides quick truck access to the port, where loading and unloading to storage or ship hold is conducted through multiple pits and loading hoppers. The terminal has three truck scales to accommodate high volume truck traffic. |
Facility Dry Storage – With 128 bins capable of holding 82,000 metric tons, the bulk cargo terminal is one of the largest grain elevators on a west coast port. In addition to this upright storage, the terminal includes room for 76,000 metric tons of covered flat storage and 72,000 tons of open flat storage.
Liquid Storage – Two million gallons of liquid storage accommodate Penny Newman imports of molasses and other liquid feed components through the port, and plans are in the works for additional liquid storage capacity. Processing – The bulk cargo terminal includes facilities for drying, cleaning and grinding grain and grain by-products. Contract Services In addition to handling its own products at the bulk cargo terminal, Penny Newman provides contract services to other exporters and importers of bulk dry and liquid materials. Services include stevedoring, transloading, and upright and flat storage.
Penny Newman Grain provides stevedoring services at the bulk cargo terminal using members of the ILWU. |
